After a springlike start to the week in Washington, D.C., a sharp change to frigid weather comes Wednesday night into Thursday.
A strong thunderstorm threat will evolve on the warm side of a wide-reaching winter storm Wednesday.
"The main severe threat will be locally damaging winds on Wednesday, especially during the afternoon and early evening," said Senior Meteorologist John Gresiak.
"There may be enough spin in the atmosphere to spark an isolated tornado or two," said Gresiak.
Pay close attention to any flash flood or severe storm-related warnings that may be issued.
Wednesday night will turn windy and much colder in the wake of the storm. Subfreezing air will settle in by daybreak Thursday which can ice up any lingering wet patches on roadways or sidewalks.

AccuWeather RealFeel® temperatures will be in teens throughout the day Thursday.
"The next few days will be like a winter sandwich," said AccuWeather.com Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams.
A frigid Thursday will be saddled between a pair of relatively mild days. Highs will return to the upper 50s for both Friday and Saturday.
