Winter Storm Leon Snow and Ice Totals

Winter Storm Leon affected a long swath of the Deep South and parts of the immediate East Coast Jan. 28 into early Jan. 29, snarling traffic in several major cities. Below are snow and ice reports from the storm.

Texas

• 2.0" snow in Booker
• 1.0" snow in San Augustine
• 0.75" sleet in Beaumont
• Freezing rain in Austin, Houston. Accidents reported in the Austin area.

Louisiana

• 4.0" snow in Jena
• 3.0" snow in Ridgecrest
• 2.0" snow and sleet in Alexandria
• 1.0" sleet in Mount Herman
• Icing reported as far south as New Iberia and Morgan City
• In Lake Charles, I-210 both east and west bound were closed due to ice

Alabama

• 3" snow in Deatsville, Marbury, Butler
• 2.5" snow in Phenix City
• 2" snow in Birmingham. Major travel problems.
• 1.0" sleet near the Mobile Airport
• 0.50" sleet at the University of South Alabama
• 0.50" snow near Montgomery
• 0.25"-0.40" freezing rain in Gulf Shores
• Power outages from freezing rain in Dothan.
• Tree branches broken, power outages in Perdido Beach

• 3.0" sleet and snow in Tylertown

• 0.10" freezing rain in Pascagoula

Georgia

• 2.6" snow at Atlanta International Airport. Travel crippled in Atlanta metro for several hours.
• 2.5" snow in Macon
• 0.25" freezing rain in LaGrange
• 0.25"-0.50" freezing rain in Sylvania
• 0.25" freezing rain with trees down near Metter

Florida

• 0.38" sleet near De Funiak Springs
• 0.25" freezing rain in Gulf Breeze
• 0.25" accumulated ice in Fort Walton Beach
• Portions of I-10 closed at times in the Florida Panhandle due to ice.
• Icing reported in Panama City Beach
• Power outages from freezing rain in the Florida Panhandle, including Pensacola and Bonifay areas.

North Carolina

• 9" snow in Gliden
• 8" snow in Tyner
• 5.5" snow in Elizabeth City
• Up to 2.8" of snow near Raleigh
• 0.75" freezing rain near Hampstead and Masonboro

South Carolina
