The amount of winter flooding due to rain and snowmelt is greatly
dependent on the air temperature. Much of the rain can get absorbed by
the snow when the temperature is just above freezing. However, if the
temperature reaches 50 degrees or higher, there can be rapid snowmelt
and major flooding.
