WeatherFanatics: Pittsburgh: Storms May Hit Travel Hard Overnight Into Friday Morning

Amidst the warm weather this week, the Pittsburgh area will be blasted by rounds of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds into the first thing Friday morning.
Temperatures will generally stay above freezing through Friday evening, so the risk of black ice has diminished for the time being.
The most significant weather maker will be a front moving through with drenching downpours, gusty winds and thunder and lightning.

The system may be potent enough to bring gusts to 60 mph. Such winds can down tree limbs and cause sporadic power outages and difficulties on area bridges.

In addition to the risk of airborne trash cans and other debris, motorists and pedestrians should be on the lookout for street, highway and poor drainage area flooding, along with potholes.

The worst conditions with the rain, wind, rain and flooding will be from 12:00 a.m. Friday until 6:00 a.m. Friday but residual problems may linger into the morning drive.
Travel conditions may improve Friday afternoon.

Mild weather will stick around through the weekend, but colder air will return in stages next week.
Be on the lookout for patches of black ice Saturday morning and Sunday morning due to freezing runoff.
