Weather Underground midday recap for Sunday,February 16,2014
A low pressure system moved across the eastern portion of the Great
Lakes on Sunday, while a separate area of low pressure trekked across
the Intermountain West.
High wind warnings and blizzard warnings were issued across the northern
Rockies on Sunday as an area of low pressure drove active weather
across the region. Glacier, Mont., reported wind speeds of 69 mph, while
Teton, Mont., reported wind speeds of 70 mph. Avalanche warnings were
also issued across the Rockies on Sunday. Just to the west, a cold
frontal boundary approached the Pacific Northwest, which brought another
surge of moisture to the region. High pressure kept the majority of the
Southwest clear of precipitation, as Coolidge, Ariz., recorded a midday
high of 80 degrees.
Scattered snow showers associated with a wave of low pressure pushed
across parts of the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic, as light
accumulations occurred in several states. Brown, Ohio, reported a midday
total of 1.0 inches of snow, while Wayne, Ohio, reported a midday total
of 2.0 inches of snow. To the south, high pressure continued to build
over the eastern Gulf Coast, which brought warm, sunny conditions to the
Gulf Coast and the Southeast. Alpine, Texas, recorded a midday high of
85 degrees, while Ozona, Texas, recorded a midday high of 82 degrees.
