An area of low pressure trekked northward along the Eastern Seaboard on
Saturday, while unsettled weather continued to move across the
northwestern U.S.
Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories were issued across
the northern Mid-Atlantic and eastern New England on Saturday as a low
pressure system moved northward along the East Coast. Several states
experienced a wintery mix of rain and snow along coastal regions, while
moderate to heavy snow extended from northeastern Virginia to
northeastern Maine. Coatesville, Pa., reported a midday total of 1.34 of
rain, while Eckhart Mines, Md., reported a midday total of 4.15 inches
of snow. Meanwhile, high pressure kept the majority of the southeast and
the Gulf Coast warm and sunny on Saturday, as Andrews, Texas, recorded a
midday high of 82 degrees.
Just to the west, a separate wave of low pressure drove snowy weather
across the Midwest, as winter weather advisories were issued in parts of
Iowa and Minnesota. Redwood, Minn., reported a midday total of 2.5
inches of snow, while Blue Earth, Minn., also reported a midday total of
2.5 inches of snow.
Out West, moderate to heavy rain pushed eastward over the Pacific
Northwest, while the northern Cascades experienced heavy snow showers.
Newport Airport, Ore., reported a midday total of 0.78 inches of rain,
while North Bend, Ore., reported a midday total of 0.75 inches of rain.
Spotty snow showers also moved across the northern Rockies on Saturday. A
ridge of high pressure along southern California ushered warm weather
across the Southwest, as Palm Springs, Calif., recorded a midday high of
82 degrees.
