A cold frontal boundary extended across the southern Plains, the Gulf
Coast and the Southeast on Monday, while a plume of moisture shifted
away from northern California and over the Pacific Northwest.
A cold front along the southern Plains, the Gulf Coast and the Southeast
brought a mixture of rain and snow to a handful of states on Monday as
winter weather advisories were issued across the region. A cluster of
showers moved across eastern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama,
while a mixture of rain and snow inched across the eastern portion of
the Tennessee Valley, the Carolinas and Virginia. Florida experienced
warm, muggy conditions on Monday and avoided precipitation. Immokalee
Regional Airport, Fla., recorded a midday high of 84 degrees, while
Miami, Fla., recorded a midday high of 82 degrees. Parts of the
Northeast also experienced light, scattered snow showers.
The northern Plains and the upper Midwest continued to experience very
cold, blustery conditions as a high pressure system drew cold air
southward from Canada. Crane Lake, Minn., recorded a morning low of -27
degrees. Light to moderate snow showers moved across parts of the
central Rockies and the central Plains.
Winter weather advisories and blizzard warnings were issued in the upper
Intermountain West on Monday as a plume of moisture shifted northward
over the northwestern corner of the country. The heaviest snow fell in
eastern Washington, northern Idaho and western Montana, while scattered
showers pushed across western Washington and northwestern Oregon. The
Southwest stayed clear of rain and snow.
