Cold weather will be the rule for the Detroit area through late this week and weekend, but major storms will stay away.
Temperatures will moderate through Friday, before some snow showers fall over the region.
A system moving in from the northern Plains will slide south of the Detroit area into Valentine's Day. However, a few snow showers will be around with no accumulation expected.

Severe cold will return for the weekend, as temperatures dip back below freezing Saturday and Sunday.
Temperatures will warm a bit on Monday but ice followed by rain may create dangerous travel conditions for the Monday evening commute.
However, a major warmup is in store for the city next week providing some relief from the bitter cold.
Beginning Monday, temperatures will jump up into the 40s and the city will stay mild through next week and into mid February.
