Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,January 11,2014
An active weather system will push across the eastern third of the
country on Saturday, while a cold frontal boundary will move over the
Northwest.
An extensive cold frontal boundary will stretch from southern Texas to
the central Great Lakes. As a low pressure system interacts with a warm,
muggy air mass surging northward from the Gulf of Mexico, conditions
will be favorable for thunderstorms development across the southeast and
into the Mid-Atlantic. Severe thunderstorms will be possible from
Florida to the Mid-Atlantic Coast, while showers and weaker
thunderstorms will develop further inland. Along the northern portion of
the frontal boundary, a low pressure system will trigger snow showers
across the Great Lakes and into the Ohio Valley, while freezing rain
will be possible across northern New England.
The majority of the central U.S. will stay clear of precipitation,
although light rain and snow will fall in parts of the northern Plains.
Meanwhile, a separate cold front will begin to trek across the Northwest
on Saturday, providing rainy conditions to northern California, Oregon
and Washington. Heavy snow can be expected across the Cascades and
northern Rockies, while lighter snow will push across the northern
Sierra Nevadas and central Rockies. The desert Southwest will avoid
precipitation on Saturday as high pressure prolongs a dry spell across
the region.
