WeatherFanatics: Thousands Ready if Super Bowl Brings Snow

More than 3,500 pieces of snow-clearing equipment in New York and New Jersey will be prepared to go into service, if snow affects Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2, officials said Wednesday.
The N.Y./N.J. Super Bowl Host Committee outlined its weather preparedness plan for MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., and the surrounding area.
About 400,000 visitors are expected to attend game-related events and another 80,000 for the Super Bowl.

"MetLife Stadium, the city and both states have a strong track record of preparing for and handling adverse weather conditions," committee Co-Chairman Jonathan Tisch said. "When game time comes, we will be ready to handle whatever Mother Nature throws at us."

As the NFL and others prepare for the historic cold-weather outdoor game, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the New York City Department of Sanitation will have thousands of tons of rock salt and thousands of gallons of liquid calcium chloride available for winter travel problems.
At MetLife Stadium, officials said they have snow chutes to direct snow from seating areas into a snow melter as part of its arsenal of snow removal equipment.
"There may be no way to predict the weather -- which could range from sunshine and mild temperatures to blizzard-like conditions -- but we can be prepared for any and everything," committee President and CEO Alfred F. Kelly Jr. said.
