While balmy air and rain will affect Pittsburgh into Thursday night, a return of colder air will be accompanied by a change to snow and slippery travel Friday.
Temperatures surged into the 60s Thursday afternoon but by the late afternoon hours Friday temperatures will be close to the freezing mark (32 degrees).
Enough wintry precipitation could occur to hinder travel locally Friday afternoon into Friday night, and in a swath from Texas to parts of Ohio and other portions of western and central Pennsylvania.
The change to snow will progress to the south and east Friday evening.
Commuters should be prepared for slippery roads for the drive home Friday and for evening activities. Parts of the area can be blanketed by several inches of snow.
The weekend will be cold around Pittsburgh with high temperatures within a few degrees of freezing.
After a break from precipitation on Saturday, another round of snow and wintry mix is in the offing for Sunday.
