Snow, Ice to Return to Pittsburgh Late This Week

While warmer air will filter into Pittsburgh into Wednesday, a return of colder air will be accompanied by some snow and/or ice by Friday.
Temperatures will climb into the 50s Tuesday and Wednesday as warm air pushes northward along the Atlantic Seaboard and the Appalachians.
For folks taking in the holiday lights on the bridges and squares, they will not have to brave wintry precipitation and cold through Wednesday.

However, at the same time frigid air will charge southward over the Plains and will ooze eastward. Just enough cold air will settle in by the end of the week to allow rain to change to snow or a wintry mix, including some sleet and freezing rain.
Enough wintry precipitation could occur to hinder travel Friday locally, and in a swath from Texas to parts of Ohio and other portions of Pennsylvania.
The weekend will be cold around Pittsburgh with high temperatures within a few degrees of the freezing mark (32 degrees Fahrenheit).
