As cold air blasts the West and reaches the Central states, warmth will build in the East, bringing above-average temperatures to the New York City area this week.
High temperatures will be in the 50s most days into Friday, but will surge into the 60s Thursday.
Spotty showers are in the offing Thursday. However, it could get very wet Friday into Friday night as a storm moves in from the South Central states. Travel delays are possible due to fog for a time Thursday, then the drenching rain Friday.
The warmest part of the day Friday will be first thing in the morning, but temperatures will fall as the day progresses.
The weekend will be colder but odds are against significant snow or ice at the tail end of the rain late Friday night into Saturday morning in the New York area.
Another storm moving in from the South Central states could bring a wintry mix to part of the metro area later in the weekend.

Next time it snows, you might want to look at those flakes a bit more closely: library.ssec.wisc.edu/bentley/ pic.twitter.com/nvhMla4xHe
