Weather Underground midday recap for Wednesday,December 11,2013
Another cold morning greeted much of the West as cold air continued to
provide minimum temps well below freezing for lower elevations. Morning
temperatures for the Central Valley of California cooled into the 20s
for some locations, and Hard Freeze Warnings warned of temperatures
below freezing for several hours. This current cold snap has taken a
toll on the citrus crop in California, but warmer temperatures were on
their way over the next several days.
Meanwhile, snowy weather progressed through parts of the Midwest as a
front produced light to moderate snowfall through the Ohio Valley. The
cold air associated with this snowfall was enough to instigate Wind
Chill Advisories for this evening into Thursday from northern Minnesota
through northern Illinois.
In fact, much of the country remained below normal, with afternoon
temperatures in the 40s and 50s as far south as Texas and parts of the
Southeast. Temperatures rose into the 20s and 30s in the Northeast,
while the Southeast saw temperatures as warm as the 80 for Florida. The
Northwest rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Southwest saw
temperatures in the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
