An active weather system will impact the central and eastern thirds of
the country on Saturday, while a cold frontal boundary will approach the
Pacific Northwest.
A cold front will drive a mixture of rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow
across the central and eastern portions of the country on Saturday.
Freezing rain will be possible just east of the central Appalachians as a
lingering cold air mass interacts with a warm, muggy air mass from the
Gulf of Mexico. Freezing rain will be possible in parts of Virginia,
West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York. Meanwhile,
widespread snow showers will move across the Tennessee Valley, the Ohio
Valley and the Northeast, while rain and thunderstorms will impact the
lower Appalachians and parts of the Southeast. A separate frontal
boundary is expected to linger along the coast of Florida, which will
bring spotty showers and thunderstorms to the southern tip of the state.
Over the Intermountain West, a cold front will begin to move
southeastward over Montana. This system will provide snow showers to the
northern Rockies on Saturday. A separate cold front will approach the
Pacific Northwest, which will push rain over western Washington and
snowy conditions across the Cascades. The Southwest will stay clear of
wet weather on Saturday due to a ridge of high pressure over the region.
