Episodes of snow and slippery travel are forecast prior to the departure of arctic air this weekend around Detroit.
Intermittent snow into early Thursday can coat the ground in some areas. This touch of snow marks the leading edge of the latest blast of arctic air to sweep across the region.
However, the heaviest bands of lake-effect snow off of Lake Michigan will not reach the metro area, but can pile up to several feet in the snowiest spots over western and northern Michigan.
RealFeel® temperatures will plunge below zero at times Thursday into Friday morning, thanks to wind, cloud cover and other factors.
A storm will roll out of the South Central states during the first part of this weekend.
A period of snow late Friday night into midday Saturday is likely to bring a general 1-3 inches of snow. Expect slippery travel during this time.
