After basking in balmy air much of this week, a return to colder weather will be accompanied by multiple rounds of wintry mix into early next week around Washington, D.C.
Rain Friday could become mixed with sleet and wet snow before ending by Saturday morning. Temperatures Friday will start the day near 60 but will fall into the 40s toward evening for tree lighting activities and plunge into the 30s late at night.
Slippery roads are not expected around the city and the nearby suburbs late Friday night. However, well north and west in northern Virginia, northern Maryland and central Pennsylvania, there can be some slippery spots developing Friday night.
After a break during the middle of this weekend, during which cold air will settle in, another storm will head in Sunday.
That second storm will start cold then become warmer, so that a wintry mix changes to rain in most areas. However, the second storm will bring a greater chance of some slippery spots around the city for a brief time and perhaps more general slippery travel well north and west.
A third storm system may or may not track close enough to bring a period of snow, rain or wintry mix for a time on Tuesday.
