Warmer air will work into Boston later this week into the weekend. However, episodes of rain, drizzle and fog will tag along.
Accumulating snow is not likely between now and Christmas Day.
Temperatures will swing above normal Friday and Saturday and have a chance to rival record highs in part of New England Sunday.
Because of the cold ground, cold ocean and extensive snowcover in the region, the flow of warm, moist air over theses surfaces is likely to produce areas of dense fog.
While it appears the heaviest rain will fall north of Boston, parts of New England may receive enough rain, combined with melting snow to cause flooding problems in urban areas and along small streams.
For folks heading into neighboring Canada, enough cold air may hang on in low levels of the atmosphere to produce a major ice storm.
Colder air will sweep back into Boston and New England later Monday and Monday night with gusty winds.
Dry weather is forecast for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
