Boston: Cold Air to Return With Snow, Ice and Rain Mix

After basking in mild air much of this week, a return to colder weather will be accompanied by multiple rounds of wintry mix into early next week around Boston.
Rain Friday will become mixed with and change to snow before ending Saturday morning. Temperatures will start the day in the 50s but will fall into the 40s toward evening and plunge into the 30s Friday night.
Odds are against slippery roads in the city with the first round, but there can be a bit of snow on non-paved surfaces and a couple of inches of snow in the western suburbs with slippery travel over western Massachusetts, northwestern Connecticut and southwestern New Hampshire.

After a break during the middle of this weekend, during which cold air will settle in, another storm will head in Sunday night.
That second storm Sunday night and Monday will start cold then become warmer, so that snow changes to an icy mix and then to rain around the city.

Well north and west of the city, if temperatures manage to stay below freezing, there could be a buildup of ice on trees, power lines, roads and sidewalks, perhaps to the point of causing power outages and very dangerous travel with that second storm.
A third storm system may or may not track close enough to bring a period of snow or wintry mix for a time on Tuesday.
