In early November 1913, the Great Lakes were at the mercy of a fierce
storm that was later called the region's deadliest and most destructive
natural disaster. The powerful storm took shape as a storm traveling
north from the South combined with another system ushering down arctic
air. Winds whipped to around 80 mph in Cleveland, Ohio, and Buffalo,
N.Y. Cleveland was also buried by 22.2 inches of snow.
