Winter like conditions continued to impact the Pacific Northwest and the
Intermountain West on Saturday, while a cold frontal boundary pushed
across the central and northern Plains.
Winter storm warnings were issued across the Pacific Northwest and
Intermountain West on Saturday as a result of an unsettled air mass over
the region. Heavy snow showers impacted the Cascades and Rockies, while
rain pushed across western Washington and northwestern Oregon.
Gunnison, Colo., reported a midday total of 6.0 inches of snow, while
Cassia, Idaho, reported a midday total of 8.1 inches of snow. Strong
winds also accompanied this system, especially along mountainous
terrain. Wolf Creek Pass, Colo., recorded wind gusts of 71 mph, while
Laramie, Wyo., recorded wind gusts of 53 mph. The Southwest stayed clear
of precipitation, as temperatures ranged between the 60s and 70s in the
southern California and Arizona deserts.
A cold front moved across the central and northern Plains on Saturday.
This system interacted with a warm, muggy air mass from the Gulf of
Mexico and triggered showers and thunderstorms over the northern Plains
and upper Midwest. Temperatures ranged between the 40s and 50s across
the region. The eastern third of the country stayed clear of wet weather
on Saturday, with the exception being Florida, where thunderstorms
developed during the late morning and early afternoon. Zephyrhills,
Fla., reported a midday total of 0.59 inches of rain.
