FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- The Golden Valley Electric Cooperative says some Fairbanks-area residents remain without power three days after a strong winter storm knocked down trees and power lines.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner -- citing the utility -- reported that about 2,500 residents had no power as of 8 a.m. Saturday.
Temperatures were in the teens Saturday, but the forecast was calling for lows well below zero in the next few days.
(LOCAL FORECAST: Fairbanks | Anchorage | Barrow | Nome | Juneau | Sitka)
Dozens of linemen and contractors, including crews from Anchorage, were working to restore power.
Residents have been asked to keep their porch lights on so crews can quick tell which homes have electricity.
