Weather Underground midday recap for Monday,October 14,2013.
A low pressure system brought gusty, snow conditions to the Rockies and
northern Plains on Monday, while a ridge of high pressure developed off
of the West Coast.
The Pacific Northwest and Southwest avoided precipitation on Monday as a
high pressure system provided warm, dry weather to the region.
Meanwhile, a cold front pushed through the Great Basin and northern
Plains on Monday, as snow showers fell in the Rockies and northern
Plains. Almo Box Elder, Utah reported a midday total of 8.6 inches of
snow, while Arco, Idaho reported a midday total of 3.3 inches of snow.
Strong winds swept through the Great Basin, as Thermopolis, Wyoming
reported wind speeds of 62 mph. Strong winds also whipped through the
Rockies, as Monarch Pass, Colorado reported wind speeds of 58 mph
earlier Monday morning. Ahead of the cold front, moderate thunderstorms
formed over several states in the Midwest, including Texas, Oklahoma,
Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas. Ardmore Downtown, Oklahoma reported a
midday total of 1.95 inches of rain.
The eastern third of the country stayed relatively clear of
precipitation, although parts of the Northeast experienced light to
moderate showers. Light showers also fell in the Carolinas as a low
pressure system continued to linger along the coast. The Southeast
remained warm and muggy on Monday, as Naples, Florida reported a midday
high of 88 degrees.
