Wet weather continued to persist in the Pacific Northwest on Tuesday as a
result of a low pressure system just north of Washington, and
thunderstorms lingered along the eastern Gulf Coast and lower
Mississippi Valley.
A cold front boundary moved out of the Northwest on Tuesday, although
plenty of wet weather continued to dampen the Pacific Northwest.
Although precipitation was a bit lighter today, moderate rain and snow
fell along the western slopes of the Cascades and northern Rockies.
Olympia, Washington received just under an inch of rain earlier today,
while Fort Lewis received just above a half an inch. Spotty showers also
fell over northern Oregon, Idaho, and western Montana. The Southwest
and southern Great Basin managed to avoid wet weather on Tuesday as most
of the precipitation remained to the north.
A cold front boundary moved over the northern Plains and upper Midwest
on Tuesday, but almost no precipitation affected the region. To the
south, though, an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico continued to fuel
thunderstorms along the eastern Gulf Coast and southern Mississippi
Valley. Some parts of eastern Texas experienced strong thunderstorms, as
flood warnings were issued in the area. Anglenton, Texas recorded just
about an inch and a half of rain earlier today, while an inch of rain
fell in Palacios, Texas. Spotty thunderstorms also moved across the
Florida panhandle on Tuesday. The rest of the East Coast experienced a
ridge of high pressure which resulted in cool, dry conditions. .
