Weather Underground midday recap for Saturday,September 21,2013.
A cold front that extended from Texas to New York brought plenty of rain
to the East Coast on Saturday, while most of the central U.S. stayed
dry.
Wet weather and gusty winds accompanied an extensive cold front on
Saturday, bringing heavy rain to a number of states along the East
Coast. Flood warnings were issued in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama,
and West Virginia as the cold front moved slowly eastward. Remnants of
Tropical Cyclone Manuel interacted with a couple of embedded low
pressure systems to bring more wet weather to Texas. Flood watches were
also issued in parts of Texas as showers and thunderstorms continued to
linger in the state.
High pressure over the four corners states brought more relief to flood
zones in the Central Rockies on Saturday as the majority of the Great
Basin stayed dry.
Meanwhile out West, a cold front continued to trek through parts of the
Pacific Northwest and California. This cold front brought wet weather to
Washington, Oregon, and even as far south as central California as
cooler conditions followed the front. Snow showers also fell at high
elevations in the northern Cascades as a result of this recent cold
front passage. The Southwest dodged wet weather on Saturday as the cold
front stayed further north, although temperatures dropped below 100
degrees in the southern California and Arizona deserts. Phoenix reported
a midday high temperature of 93 degrees, which was the warmest spot in
the nation on Saturday.
