A cold front triggered severe weather threats in the northern Midwest on
Wednesday, while the Northeast felt the effects of a high pressure
system.
Strong thunderstorms developed over the northern Plains on Wednesday as a
result of a cold front that stretched over the Rockies and northwest
Plains. Warm, moist air over the Midwest interacted with this cold front
to create hazardous conditions throughout the Dakotas and parts of
western Minnesota. Strong thunderstorms also developed over the Ohio
Valley on Wednesday, producing roughly a quarter inch of rain per hour
in some spots.
The Northeast felt slightly warmer temperatures today as a high pressure
system stationed itself over New England. This high pressure pulled
warm air from the south into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, while clear
conditions accompanied the system. The high temperature in Boston was
73(F)/ 23(C), while New York experienced a high of 71(F)/ 21(C). A cold
front moved through Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama on Wednesday,
producing unsettled weather continued to impact around the Gulf Coast
and Florida Peninsula. Southern Texas also experienced spotty
thunderstorms today.
Wet weather affected the Pacific Northwest coast,, while the majority of
the Southwest sat under a high pressure system. This high pressure
system kept temperatures very warm inland, as the southern California
and Arizona deserts experienced temperatures above 100 degrees.
