One man was killed when lightning hit in south Florida Monday and two more were injured in a semi-rural area southwest of Miami.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said three men were outside when a major storm passed through the area Monday afternoon. They tried to hide underneath a tractor-trailer but it was struck by lightning. The energy passed through the trailer and into the men.
The two injured men were flown to a trauma center for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.
South Florida is at risk for dangerous weather, including severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes, through the holiday afternoon.
Before Monday's death in south Florida, lightning had killed 18 people in the U.S. this year, according to data from the National Weather Service.
