Detroit: Locally Strong Storms to End the Week

The upcoming end of the week will not be the best for outdoor activities around Detroit, but there is a good chance for improvement over the weekend.
First, a push of warmer and slightly more humid air may bring spotty showers and thunderstorms to the region Thursday.
Next, slow-moving cool front will bring more general showers and storms Friday and Saturday.

With the warmer weather Thursday and Friday and the slow approach of the front, there is the risk of some of the storms becoming locally severe. A few locations could be hit with strong wind gusts, frequent lightning and blinding downpours.
Folks heading to the ballgames Thursday and Friday should expect some rain.
Much cooler weather will sweep in this weekend with highs in the 60s to near 70.
As long as the front keeps moving to the east this weekend, the weather will improve. And that improvement could be as early as the Tigers' game Friday evening with the White Sox at Comerica Park.

Indications area storm will try to form along the front, causing it to hangup over the central Appalachians. Only if that storm strengthens faster than expected, would the rain be thrown back into southeastern Lower Michigan.
The weather should be great for Football at South Bend, Ind., Saturday where the Spartans take on the Fighting Irish. Meanwhile, the weather at East Hartford, Conn., where the Wolverines tackle the Huskies Saturday night will be humid with the chance of a downpour.
