A UPS cargo plane crashed Wednesday morning near Birmingham, Ala., according to the Associated Press.
Local news source Alabama 13 reported the plane went down in an open field owned by the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth airport near 19th Avenue North and North East Lake Boulevard.
The crash occurred at 4:45 a.m. according to Birmingham Meteorologist for ABC 33/40 James Spann.

While the cause of the incident is still under investigation, there were thick, low clouds around 1,000 feet above the surface at the time of the crash. Winds were light at 3 mph.
During the afternoon hours, light showers popped up in the area. This evening will bring mainly clear skies, light winds and temperatures in the 60s, as cleanup efforts continue.
