		Weather Underground midday recap for Tuesday,August 20,2013. Wet weather continued in parts of the East on Tuesday, while thunderstorms and fire danger continued in the West. In the East, sufficient moisture over the southeastern quadrant of the nation supported scattered showers and thunderstorms from the Southeast through the Central Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic as a weakening frontal boundary remained nearly stationary from the Central Gulf Coast to the coast of the South Carolina. Stronger storms in the region were capable of producing locally heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts and lightning. Flooding remained a concern from parts of the Florida Panhandle and southeastern Alabama through South Carolina. Elsewhere in the East, a weakening cold front moved southward into Maine on Tuesday with chances of showers and thunderstorms.In the Plains, a disturbance in the western Gulf of Mexico kicked up showers and thunderstorms in coastal areas of Texas and Louisiana, while a front from Canada moved into the Northern Plains with chances of scattered showers and chances of thunderstorms. Out West, monsoonal moisture triggered afternoon and evening convective activity in the Four Corners. Moisture also increased ahead of a low located off the central California coast, triggering continued chances of thunderstorms in central and northern California into southern Oregon and Idaho. Abundant lightning potential with these storms combined with dry fuels and gusty winds heightened fire weather conditions in these regions.
