Weather Underground midday recap for Wednesday,August 14,2013. A tropical disturbance formed Wednesday in the western Caribbean Sea and was on the verge of moving into the southern Gulf of Mexico. There is a possibility this system could strengthen over the course of the next few days on its way through the gulf, and thus it will be monitored closely. Meanwhile, a long cold front stretched through the Southeast and allowed for more scattered showers and thunderstorms to form from Louisiana through South Carolina. This activity could increase over the next few days as the aforementioned tropical disturbance moves northward.

Meanwhile, a few areas of showers and thunderstorms popped up in the Plains from Kansas through Nebraska. A weak cold front moved through the Pacific Northwest and instigated a few showers in Washington and Oregon.

A large high pressure system continued the dry weather in the Plains and Upper Midwest, while breezy, but dry weather moved through the Northeast.

The Northeast rose into 70s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The Southern Plains rose into the 80s and 90s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in the 90s and 100s.
