A strong cold front pushed across the South Monday, producing a band of severe storms. The areas at risk for severe weather stretched from central Alabama to southeastern Louisiana. Within that area, storms produced damaging wind gusts, hail and a few tornadoes.
Sunday night, severe weather hit parts of Mississippi and Alabama. Reports on Twitter indicate that houses were damaged on the north side of Birmingham by a possible tornado or downburst.
REPORTS:
10:31 a.m. CST: Trees were downed 6 miles north Prattville, Ala.
10:13 a.m. CST: ABC 33/40 TV Meteorologist James Spann tweeted that a possible tornado was located near Loxley, Ala., moving northeastward.
8:25 a.m. CST: The roof of a house was damaged 3 miles west of Pickwick, Miss., from a possible tornado.
8:11 a.m. CST: Walthall County Emergency Manager reported structural damage to a home in Dexter, Miss., from a possible tornado.
7:57 a.m. CST: Walthall County Emergency Manager reported a possible tornado in the southern part of Walthall County, about 6 miles south of Tylertown, Miss. There were reports of damage to a barn and to the roof of an office building.
7:36 a.m. CST: Numerous trees were downed in Greenwell Springs, La.
7:30 p.m. CST: AccuWeather.com's Expert Meteorologist Henry Margusity said that southeastern Mississippi and southeaster Louisiana "remain primed for severe storms and possible tornadoes."
6:56 a.m. CST: Baker, La., Police Department reported widespread damage to trees and power lines across the city.
