Here's the "WeatherWhys",for Tuesday,October 16,2012,discussing the storm factors for the storm that hit the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic regions on this date 3 years ago, from accuweather.com,enjoy:
An area of low pressure moved from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic
Seaboard Oct. 16 and 17, 2009.The low rapidly intensified along the
coast pulling cold Canadian air southward into the Great Lakes and
Appalachians. This cold air interacted with the moisture from the low
pressure to cause a tree-snapping snowstorm from West Virginia into
western and central Pennsylvania resulting in widespread power outages.
