Baseball fans planning on attending Game 5 of the National League Championship Series between St. Louis and San Francisco tonight will need to prepare for breezy, chilly conditions.
The first pitch is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. EDT tonight at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo.
A late-November-like air mass has moved into the Mississippi River Valley thanks to a slow-moving storm over the Great Lakes. This storm also continues to generate quite a bit of wind as well making it feel even colder than it actually is.
The first pitch temperature will be around 50 degrees, but a west wind between 7 and 14 mph with gusts to 20 mph will make it feel like it's in the middle 40s. Fans should break out the sweaters and perhaps the winter jacket to remain warm in the fall chill.
Temperatures will continue to drop through the game with the 9th inning temperature around 46 degrees. Thankfully for fans, the winds are expected to gradually diminish through the course of the game.
Temperatures in the 40s and 50s are more like those of late-November in St. Louis. In fact, the normal daytime high for the city on Oct. 19 is 68 degrees.
Should the St. Louis Cardinals win tonight, then they will be crowned N.L.C.S. Champions and move on to the World Series next week to face the Detroit Tigers.
Should San Francisco win, then Game 6 will be back in San Francisco on Sunday at 8 p.m. EDT. At this time, Sunday appears dry; however, clouds will be on the increase in the Bay area with rain possible on Monday. If this series goes to a Game 7, it would be played Monday night in San Francisco.
