Tropical Storm Jimena Moving Slowly in the Central Pacific, Adding to Hawaii High Surf

September 8,2015

Current Status and Forecast:

  • Tropical Storm Jimena was several hundred miles north of Hawaii as of Tuesday afternoon, local time.
  • Jimena will continue to weaken this week as it tracks west, well north of Hawaii, eventually degenerating to a remnant low.
  • Swells from Jimena will continue to create high surf along east and northeast facing shores of Hawaii through Tuesday. However, this should be on the decline the next couple of days.
  • Jimena may help to enhance moisture in Hawaii later this week. This would once again increase the threat of heavy rainfall.
  • At one point last Saturday evening (Aug. 29) into Sunday morning (Aug. 30), Jimena was one of three Category 4 equivalent hurricanes in the Pacific, joined by Kilo and Ignacio.
