Tropical Storm Grace Moving West in the Atlantic Ocean

September 7,2015
  • Tropical Storm Grace was located about 1480 miles east of the Lesser Antilles as of Monday night.
  • Grace has begun to weaken as it moves quickly toward the west.
  • As Grace moves into the central Atlantic Ocean and eventually the waters near the Lesser Antilles, it's forecast to continue  to weaken due to increased wind shear.
  • Grace could degenerate into a tropical wave or remnant low near the Lesser Antilles due to this wind shear. This would be similar to what we saw with Danny in August.

With an environment of wind shear and dry air ahead, Grace is likely to remain a weak tropical storm. As of Monday night, satellite imagery showed that Grace was less organized than on Sunday and convection continues to decrease.
Through midweek, it seems likely that Grace will continue to weaken. Grace is then forecast to become a remnant low or tropical wave near the Lesser Antilles late in the week. Grace is still about 4-5 days away from the islands and could bring locally heavy rainfall even though it will be weakening.
