A storm set to usher in showers and thunderstorms for midweek will help wipe out the heat later this week.
A high pressure system anchored off to the south of the city will continue to stream hot and humid air into the city through Wednesday.
Record Highs Challenged in the Northeast
Afternoon AccuWeather RealFeel® temperatures will be in the low 90s through Wednesday. However, a storm will approach the area toward the middle of the week.
"A storm moving through the region Wednesday and Thursday can bring the most substantial rainfall since the middle of August," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Dombek.

Showers and thunderstorms will soak the area Wednesday afternoon into Thursday.

In the wake of the storm, noticeably cooler and less humid air will settle in Friday into Saturday. Highs will only be in the lower 70s on Saturday.
"Once the heat gets knocked out of the area, highs may not hit 90 again until next summer," said Dombek.
