Hurricane Linda Recap

  • Linda weakened to a remnant low Thursday afternoon.
  • Linda triggered a surge of moisture into the U.S. Desert Southwest, leading to enhanced coverage of rain and thunderstorms, there.
  • Flash flood watches remained in effect for portions deserts and the inland empire of Southern California as of Thursday afternoon.
  • Swells generated by the system are currently producing high surf along parts of the Baja peninsula and Southern California. High surf advisories continue through Friday, particularly for south and southeast-facing beaches of S. California.
  • Hurricane Linda's first round of rapid strengthening occurred during the Labor Day holiday weekend, intensifying from a 45 mph tropical storm into a Category 2 hurricane with 100 mph winds in 24 hours. It weakened slightly before rapid intensification occurred a second time Tuesday morning.
