Heavy Storms to Douse Gulf Coast, Southeast Into the Weekend

After moist air ahead of a cold front brought torrential rains and flooding issues along the Gulf Coast on Friday, over the weekend, this rain will spread eastward into the Southeast.
Thunderstorms will begin to taper off late Friday night, as a cold front sinks through the region. A final batch of storms will leave behind lower humidity and sunshine for much of Texas and Louisiana through the weekend.

This will not be the case for parts of extreme southern Texas, towards Brownsville and McAllen, where persistent heavy rain continues into Saturday. Several days of slow-moving storms could bring rainfall totals up to 3 inches before drying out Saturday evening.

Flooding Causes Fatality in Texas

Southern Texas will not be the only region facing rain on Saturday. Parts of the Florida Panhandle and northern Florida into southern Georgia will be have a dreary and soggy day.
A combination of the sweeping front and all of the Gulf moisture could bring more than an inch of rain in some places, especially between Tampa and Panama City, Florida.
After Tampa had more than twice the normal amount of rainfall for the month of August, some flooding could be possible.

Locally heavy storms will bring enough rain to spoil some outdoor plans on Saturday, including as far north as the Carolinas and the Northeast.
As the front moves eastward, the uncomfortable humidity is replaced with an autumnlike chill for the second half of the weekend. However, thunderstorms will still linger across central Florida on Sunday for NFL season openers.
The Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, both of which are playing at home this weekend, may contend with a shower or thunderstorm during their afternoon games. Fans tailgating and heading to either game may want to plan on bringing along rain gear.

Miami fans staying at home, as the Dolphins travel to Washington, D.C., will be faced with some spotty afternoon thunderstorms. Those heading outside after the game may need to dodge some spotty showers and thunderstorms.
Through early next week, dry weather will settle across the Gulf Coast. The only exception is across southern Florida, where the cold front will remain stalled for several days.
Throughout the weekend, AccuWeather meteorologists will continue to monitor a low along this front. With the warm, Gulf waters, this low could develop into a tropical system early next week.
