Despite Labor Day typically marking the unofficial end of summer, heat making a comeback around Boston will continue to build after the holiday weekend.
With an area of high pressure offshore, the door is open for heat and humidity to build in from the southwest through the first part of this week.
Get Ready for the Heat
"Summer is going to dig its heels in across the Northeast for much of the week," stated AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson, "as it will feel more like late July or early August rather than September."
Labor Day will be a very warm day with blazing sunshine, but not the hottest of the week.
Temperatures will approach the 90-degree mark, then be around that threshold Tuesday and Wednesday. AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures will be higher due to increasing humidity.

Highs in the middle 70s are more common in early September. The temperature departure will be so great that Wednesday's record high will be challenged.
Anyone with outdoor plans is urged to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing and avoid strenuous activities during the hottest times of the day (the midday and afternoon hours) to avoid suffering from heat exhaustion or stroke.
For those looking to beat the heat at the beach, be sure to use caution as some locations end lifeguarding services after Labor Day.
Baseball fans headed to Fenway Park to watch the series against the Toronto Blue Jays can anticipate summerlike weather.

Sunshine will dominate over cooling thunderstorms through Tuesday, meaning sunscreen is also a necessity in addition to water bottles, fans and air conditioners. Some clouds and thunderstorms threatening to dot the western suburbs on Wednesday will signal that the heat is not here to stay.
"There are signs that the ridge in the jet stream responsible for the warm start to September in the East will finally break down late in the week, which will allow cooler and less humid air to move in for the upcoming weekend," added Thompson.
The cold front sweeping away from the heat will slowly push through the Boston area later in the week with showers and thunderstorms.
AccuWeather meteorologists will be monitoring the potential for some of the thunderstorms to unleash excessive rainfall.
