Dozens Dead After Bus Plunges Down Mountain in Brazil

More than two dozen people are dead in Brazil after a crowded bus plummeted nearly 400 meters (1,300 feet) down a mountain side.
The crash happened on Saturday in the state of Santa Catarina just outside of Joinville. The Associated Press reports that 49 people have been killed and 10 more have been transported to nearby hospitals.
AccuWeather meteorologists say that isolated thunderstorms developed in the region during the afternoon and evening. However, nearby weather observations around the time of the accident did not report any rain.
As reported by Reuters, a police spokesperson said that highway and weather conditions at the time of the crash were good.

The Associated Press reports that although the crash in under investigation, authorities say it appears that the drive lost control of the bus going around a curve.

The weather patten is not expected to change significantly over the next few days as the region will continue to see isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon through the beginning of the week that could slow recovery efforts.
