Weather Underground Forecast for Friday,January 9,2015

A cold front will extend from the Great Lakes to the southern Plains on Friday, while an arctic high pressure system will impact the north central part of the country.

A cold frontal boundary will extend across the southern Plains, the lower Mississippi Valley, the Tennessee Valley, the Ohio Valley and the eastern Great Lakes. As this cold front slides eastward, it will initiate light to moderate snow showers over the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England. Cold air behind this frontal boundary will interact with the Great Lakes, resulting in heavy lake effect snow over portions of Michigan, northeast Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania and western New York.

Meanwhile, an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will interact with the southern tier of the aforementioned cold front. Showers and chances of freezing rain will likely impact the southern half of Texas. Just to the north, an arctic high pressure system will sink south southeastward over the Plains and the Mississippi Valley. Temperatures will be 20 to 30 degrees below normal over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. Upslope flow will generate light to moderate snow showers over the central high Plains and the central Rockies. A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep conditions relatively clear to the west of the Continental Divide. The exception to this will be over the Pacific Northwest, as late evening showers will be possible along the coast of Washington and northwest Oregon.
