Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday,January 6,2015

An area of low pressure will move across the Mississippi Valley and the northern Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday, while a stationary front will extend across the Intermountain West.

A low pressure system is forecast to shift eastward over the middle Mississippi Valley and the interior Mid-Atlantic. As this system slides across the region, it will usher moderate to heavy snow over the upper Midwest, the Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. Winter storm warnings are already in place across southern Minnesota, Iowa, northern Illinois, central India and southern Ohio. In addition, cold arctic air will move over the Great Lakes, which will initiate lake effect snow showers over portions of the Northeast. Lake effect snow warnings are in place across Upstate New York. High pressure will keep weather conditions calm across the Gulf Coast, the Deep South and the Southeast on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, an arctic high pressure system will interact with a stationary front extending across the Intermountain West. Light to moderate snow showers will be possible across the northern and central Plains, while heavy snow showers will be possible across the high elevations of the northern Rockies. A mixture of rain and snow can be expected across the lower elevations of the upper Intermountain West. A ridge of high pressure will persist over the eastern Pacific, keeping conditions mostly clear across the Southwest, the Great Basin and the southern Rockies on Tuesday.
