Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,January 12,2015

An area of low pressure will affect the eastern states on Monday, while an arctic high pressure system will plunge southward over the Plains and Midwest.

A low pressure system is forecast to lift northeastward over the eastern third of the country. This system will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms to portions of the central and eastern Gulf Coast, as well as the Southeast and the southern Mid-Atlantic. Light to moderate rain will spread across the Deep South and the Tennessee Valley. As cold, arctic air erodes over the Ohio Valley, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast, there will be a chance of freezing rain over the central Appalachians, the northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England. A mixture of rain and snow will develop across the southern Ohio Valley and the interior Mid-Atlantic, while snow showers will affect the northern Ohio Valley, the eastern Great Lakes and interior New England.

Meanwhile, another arctic high pressure system will sink south southeastward over the Plains and the upper Midwest. This system will usher bitter cold arctic air over the central third of the country. Temperatures will be 20 to 30 degrees below normal across the north central part of the country.

Just to the west, several impulses of low pressure will ignite precipitation across the Four Corners, the Intermountain West and the Pacific Northwest. Rain will be light in nature, while moderate to heavy snow showers will be possible along favorable mountain slopes. A ridge of high pressure will keep conditions relatively calm over the southwestern corner of the country on Monday.
