Rain is forecast to expand over the South Central states this weekend, where just enough cold air may linger to produce a swath of ice and travel disruptions.
The setup will not favor a snow event, but rather a zone of freezing rain.
While the extent and location of the greatest amount of ice has yet to be determined, there is a risk of a few hours of freezing rain developing from central and northeastern Texas to northern Louisiana and part of Arkansas during Saturday into Saturday night.
Some major cities that could be affected by a period of ice include Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Little Rock, Arkansas. Travel along Interstate 10, I-20 and I-35 corridors could be affected.
As moisture continues to expand eastward and northward, portions of the Tennessee, Ohio and middle Mississippi valleys could experience some travel problems due to an icy or wintry mix this weekend.

Spotty ice could also develop in northern Georgia and the Carolinas late in the weekend into early next week. It is possible travel along I-40, I-77 and I-85 could be affected.
