Harrisburg: Monday Ice Threatens Farm Show Travelers

An icy mix threatening to disrupt Monday morning's commute around Harrisburg will precede yet another shot of cold air.
The rebound in temperatures on Sunday will not prevent a storm from sleet and freezing rain arriving late Sunday night and persisting through Monday morning.
"In places where it has been very cold over the last few days, the ground may still be cold enough to allow any rain that falls to freeze on contact," stated AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Steve Travis.
The ice will cause untreated roads and sidewalks to become extremely slippery. A glaze may even form on trees and power lines.

Motorists, including those headed to the Pennsylvania State Farm Show, are urged to use extreme caution during the morning, allowing extra stopping distance between neighboring vehicles.
The ice will change to plain rain for the midday and afternoon hours.
However, AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Brian Thompson warned that motorists and those traveling by foot should not let their guard down when temperatures initially climb above freezing.

"Even when temperatures rise above freezing to 33 or 34 F, some surfaces may still be icy given how cold it has been over the past several days."
Drier and colder air will work into the Harrisburg area Monday night.
The cold following the storm will not be as brutal as what residents endured last week, but temperatures will still be held to the middle 20s on Tuesday. A brisk wind will hold AccuWeather.com RealFeel® Temperatures to the teens.

The chill will persist through midweek with temperatures remaining below freezing. Despite the cold, travel conditions will be much better Tuesday through Wednesday.
Less frigid days are then in store for later this week and next weekend.
