Boston: Cold Air to Be Interrupted Into Next Week

Temperatures will swing back and forth, above and below normal into next week around Boston.
While the warmest weather in the pattern will set up over the Central and Southern states, the cold air will pull back enough to bring highs in the 30s F for a few days. A day or two can bring a high in the 40s. The average high for the area during what is typically the coldest part of the winter is in the middle 30s.

As a weak system moves by offshore on Thursday, some flurries will be thrown back across the area. There could even be a coating of snow in some locations.
As a batch of chilly air sweeps quickly eastward across New England, winds may get strong enough locally to cause minor airline delays on Friday.
In terms of big storms, there is a chance of a system developing quickly enough along the Atlantic coast to bring a chance of rain on Sunday for the AFC Championship game at Foxboro, Massachusetts, as it will be too warm for snow.

According to AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams, "Every time a storm has come along this winter it has either been too warm for major snow or cold air has pushed in too much and shunted the storm to the south."
As colder air begins to push southward toward the middle of next week, a storm moving along with the advancing colder air has a chance at bringing some snow to part of the Northeast.
"It is too early to say if the system next week will mark a change in the pattern or if more of the same is in store as far as the behavior of the storms this winter," Abrams said.
