Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, December 9,2014

A low pressure system will impact the East Coast on Tuesday, while unsettled weather will persist across the Northwest.

A coastal system will bring impacts to the eastern third of the country on Tuesday. During the first half of the day, this system will move northward over the Mid-Atlantic. Light to moderate rain will develop over the Mid-Atlantic and the southern coast of New England, while a mixture of rain and snow is forecast for the central Appalachians. During the afternoon and evening, moderate to heavy rain will affect coastal New England, while interior New England and the northern Appalachians can expect snow showers and pockets of freezing rain. A separate low pressure system over the Ohio Valley will begin to merge with the aforementioned low pressure system. Scattered snow showers will be possible across the upper Midwest.

Meanwhile, an onshore flow over the western Gulf Coast will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over western Texas and southern New Mexico.

Along the West Coast, several disturbances will push eastward over the Northwest. Moderate to heavy rain is forecast for Washington and Oregon, while light to moderate rain will spread across the upper Intermountain West and northern California. In addition, high elevation snow showers will occur across the Cascades and the northern Rockies. High pressure will keep weather conditions calm across the Great Basin and the Southwest.
