Weather Underground Forecast for Friday,December 5,2014

A wave of low pressure will move across the Plains and the Mississippi Valley on Friday, while a cold front will approach the West Coast.

A low pressure system will deepen as it pushes east northeastward over the southern Plains and the middle Mississippi Valley. During Friday morning, rain will develop over portions of the central Plains and the middle Mississippi Valley, while showers and thunderstorms will fire up over the southern Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley. By the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms will be come more widespread over the lower Mississippi Valley, the western and central Gulf Coast and the Tennessee Valley. Moderate to heavy rain will also develop across the upper Midwest, the Ohio Valley and the Northeast. There will be a threat of freezing rain across a handful of states, including northern West Virginia, western Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, northern New Jersey and much of New England. The southern Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast will stay mostly clear of precipitation, although thunderstorms will be possible across southern Florida.

Meanwhile, unsettled weather will persist over the western third of the country. Light to moderate precipitation will linger over the Pacific Northwest during Friday morning as a low pressure system deteriorates over the region. A cold front will approach the West Coast during the late morning, bringing light to moderate precipitation to central and northern California, western Oregon and western Washington. During the late afternoon and evening, rain and thunderstorms will fire up over central and northern California, while moderate to heavy rain will spread across the Pacific Northwest. In addition, scattered snow showers will be possible across the Rockies during the first half of the day. The Desert Southwest will stay mostly clear of wet weather.
