A low pressure system will gradually weaken along the West Coast on Thursday, while a cold frontal boundary will extend from the southern Plains to the Southeast.
A low pressure system will skim across the coast of the Pacific Northwest. This system will usher a mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow across Washington and Oregon, while high elevation snow showers will spread across the upper Intermountain West. Light showers will persist over portions of California and the Great Basin, while a cluster of rain and thunderstorms will shift eastward over the Desert Southwest. In addition, there will be a chance of late afternoon and evening snow showers across the southern Rockies.
Bitter cold weather will linger over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest, while an arctic high pressure system will bring a blast of frigid air to the Great Lakes and the Northeast. Scattered snow showers will be possible across the upper Midwest, New York and New England.
Meanwhile, light showers will develop across the southern Plains, the lower Mississippi Valley, the Tennessee Valley and the southern Appalachians. There will be a slight chance of freezing rain over West Virginia during Thursday evening. Conditions will remain mostly clear across the Southeast, although an onshore flow from the Atlantic will bring a chance of thunderstorms to southeast Florida.
